SMart Multimedia Art Festival is taking place in April, the 1st -7th in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. SMartFest is an international festival of creativity featuring multimedia art such as digital photography, video installation, graphic design, animation, projection art, and electronic/experimental music. We are seeking submissions from local, regional, national and international artists for this event. SMartFest is hosted by the Open Concept Gallery, a new non-profit venue dedicated to promoting contemporary art. NeMe and Lanitis Foundation are collaborating for the organisation of The Mirror Stage, an international event to take place at the Lanitis Foundation, Limassol, Cyprus on 17-28 September 2008.

The Mirror Stage is the deliberately ambiguous title and starting point for this event which aims to explore the condition of contemporary art-video production, both technically and conceptually.
The exhibition will focus on:
* the dual nature of video as a documentary medium and as tool for creative expression.
* its inherent conflictual relationship between its body (to record) and its ego (to create)
The event will examine the question of video integrity and authorship in an age of deceptive and ambivalent mass media coverage.
We will favour experimental videos using narrative and non-narrative contexts.
NeMe is currently accepting video submissions as follows:

Video Shooting Tips
Here some pointers/reminders about setting and film quality video for our first project.
1. USE A TRIPOD!!!! The handheld camera may work in some situations, but with small consumer camera often the footage is unwatchable.
2. Make sure you have enough light. Low light situations will cause your footage to be gray and grainy. (See lighting tips)
3. Skecth out your shots piror to shooting, what shots do you want. (establishing shot, medium shot, close up, depth staging)
4. Compose each shot as if you were taking a still photograph! (avoid odd cropping of small elements at the each of the frame, and don't let any trees or sign posts grow up out of someone's head!)
5. Record at least 30 seconds of extra footage at the end and beginning of each take. Rewind and begin filming where you left off. LEaving gaps on you tape may cause your time code to start over.
6. Allow time for reshooting if needed. It is far easier to get a great shoot then trying to fix everything in your editor!
Lighting Tips!
1. Try not to shot in direct sunlight because this will create hard shadows. If you need to shoot in direct sun be sure to use a fill light/reflector.
2. Beware of random shadows that can occur from florida flora.
3. If shooting inside make sure you have enough light, think about filming with the sun light from a open window or other natural light source. Additional lighting is often needed, but may color your shot. Think about using fill lighting!

TV Secrets
I've only seen this series twice as I don't have Showtime. The first two episodes are available online, but if I could consistently watch the show, I would. I think this is a guilty pleasure for me mostly because it reveals my tendency to be a history nerd.

Although I despise MTV, the Real world can be very entertaining if you watch the whole thing as a joke, which it is. The show is so contrived and manipulated to create chaos in the house that it makes it hilarious to watch. Its also funny with the people that they cast. They seem to get every steriotype covered every season, you have the strong guy, the clueless girl, the gay or lesibian, etc.
I do find it kind of embarassing that I watch it, but if theres nothing else on it can provide some great entertainment.

Nick at Nite fixation
I don't really watch much TV anymore, however when I was younger, during highschool mainly, I watched Nick At Nite far more often then necessary. A couple favorite shows were Three's Company and The Facts Of Life. I think I've seen every episode, it's rather sad.
Now, I have gotten past my late night old sitcom faze...now I just watch Adult Swim :)

A New Semester, A New Blog!
Hello everybody! Most everyone knows me, but for those who don't, my name is Lindsay. As far as my guilty pleasure goes, I have been known to frequent the Disney Channel when bored (I associate this with the fact that I am constantly babysitting, but I can't promise that I wouldn't watch it otherwise). The best show on the Disney Channel now, in my opinion, is Life with Derek. So I have posted a clip from the show. The show is a bit like Step By Step, with two families coming together and dealing with their issues.
Star Trek is a sitcom, I swear.
I love this show... and it kills me inside.

In the market for a new camera?
If in the market for a new camera, try to buy the best camera for your budget. What do you want your camera to be able to do? There are some good beginner camera out there for round $300, but if you can spend more you can get a exceptional consumer camera for about $600,and a professional grade camera starting at about $1500. Don't, however let the price to determine your purchase, look for a three chip camera, that has manual settings and focus. Zoom length and lens may also influence your decision, so be sure to research a camera prior to buying it.
Things to may cause complications, camera's with internal hard drives are not always compatible. I'd recommend sticking with the mini dvd tape for a while. It also allows are cheaper storage.
